Our Tea History.

Our Tea History. Mulindi Factory Company’s Remarkable Journey of Milestones and Progress Since Its Construction.

1960: Established in 1960, the Mulindi Factory Company (MFC) pioneered tea production in Gicumbi District, Rwanda. As the largest and oldest factory, it boasts a remarkable capacity of 4,500 metric tonnes (MT).

1994 – 1996: From 1994-1996, post-war rehabilitation breathed new life into the factory and tea plantations, reinvigorating their operations and productivity.

2003 – 2011: From 2003-2011, the factory underwent a privatization endeavor aligned with the government’s ambitious agenda to revitalize and expand the tea industry.

2012: In 2012, the Rwandan Government granted the majority of shares to Wood Foundation Trust, while 5,000 farmers retained ownership through Mulindi Tea Company (MTC).

2022: March 2022 marked a historic moment as Wood Foundation Trust transferred their shares, granting small-scale farmers 100% ownership of the factory.
